The Evola Music Story
In 1931, John J. Gallagher opened his first piano store – Gallagher Music Company – on East Vernor Highway in Detroit. As his business grew, John opened another store in Pontiac that sold organs, records and televisions. Gallagher Music continued to expand in 1953 with the opening of yet another store in Royal Oak. Then in the late 1950’s, the Detroit Store was closed, leaving the Royal Oak and Pontiac stores in place. By 1965, the Pontiac store moved to Telegraph Road in Bloomfield Hills selling pianos and organs exclusively.
Ben Evola joined Gallagher Music in 1957 to help run the business with his brother-in-law, J.J. Gallagher, Jr., who had taken over operation of the company. When the two partners later went their separate ways, Ben Evola assumed ownership of the Bloomfield Hills store in 1974, changing the name of the company to Evola Music. Over the next 30 years, Ben, along with his son, Jim, expanded Evola Music to include three spacious Metro Area showrooms in Canton, Bloomfield Hills and Shelby Township with an emphasis on music education. A large Pontiac Warehouse with extensive storage facilities, technical center and corporate offices coordinates all the business activity behind the scenes.
In 2004, Ben Evola retired and passed the reins of leadership on to his son, Jim. Along with a capable staff of over thirty employees, Evola Music looks to continue a rich family tradition of success as a leading retailer of pianos and organs. In 2005 and beyond, Evola Music has joined the arena of the World Wide Web with the activation of www.niceusedpianos.com. Eventually, all of our best used pianos and trade-ins located throughout our four locations will be listed on this one site for your shopping convenience!
